The hard work against bullfighting in Portugal demands an organized response from animal rights defenders, and that is why organizations should lead and promote actions against this blood spetacle, working together with other groups, and at the same time helping to provide as many resources as possible to those thousands of people who reject and loathe tauromachy.
Therefore, MATP - Movimento Anti-Touradas de Portugal - was created in order to change the way things presently are. As a non-profit organization, we choose to have an inquisitive mind concerning everything that is taken for sure and otherwise indisputable principles in our society, thus contributing to promote the adequate application of the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights.
We believe that fighting cruelty against animals is so important as any other moral or social causes that have been defended in recent years, as they all come from the same source: ethics. Every year, thousands of bulls suffer excrutiating pain, in the name of a so-called tradition that persists in torturing and then killing these animals. Tauromachy is a blood sport. Only financial motives are behind this coward practice.
Human History has always had cruel traditions. We should not allow these violent and useless practices to go on. MATP is a non-profit organization that battles for a fair and more civilized society, with no more bullfighting.
As our forefathers were able to abolish human slavery, we in MATP believe that we can end bullfighting by motivating people to understand the cruelty of it, and see the day when bulls will be left to live in peace as they should.
